CS Duale Calls for Sustainable Health Financing in Africa
Aden Duale has underscored the urgent need for sustainable health financing in Africa during a side event at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).
He pointed to Africaโs over-reliance on external aid and stressed the importance of innovative, country-owned financing models guided by the African Unionโs Agenda 2063 and the African Health Strategy 2016โ2030.
Sharing Kenyaโs reforms, CS Duale highlighted three pillars: domestic resource mobilization, universal health coverage, and publicโprivate partnerships. He emphasized greater domestic investment, innovative financing mechanisms, regional solidarity, accountability, and efficiency as key drivers of sustainability.
Calling for action beyond intent, the CS proposed AfricaโJapan health financing accelerators to leverage Japanโs experience in universal health coverage. He concluded that sustainable health financing is both a moral and political imperative, vital for Africaโs health, security, and shared prosperity.
