CS Aden Duale Commissions KMTC Burnt Forest Campus, Calls for Expanded Access to Health Training and Services
Uasin Gishu, , 2025 - Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale officially commissioned the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Burnt Forest Campus in Uasin Gishu County, marking a significant milestone in advancing equitable access to health education and services across the country.
The establishment of the campus is a testament to the Kenya Kwanza Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and its broader commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The initiative emphasizes inclusivity by bringing training opportunities and healthcare services closer to underserved communities.
In his remarks, CS Duale commended the strong partnerships that made the campus operational, highlighting support from the Uasin Gishu County Government, which seconded tutors, the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), and the local community. He underscored the importance of SDG 17—strengthening partnerships to achieve development goals.
The event also showcased testimonials from beneficiaries of the Social Health Authority (SHA), including a local resident who underwent life-saving heart surgery worth KES 3.9 million at no cost. The testimonials highlighted SHA’s growing impact on access and affordability of healthcare services.
The community expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s leadership, citing restored public trust in the health system and alignment with the principles of integrity and public service outlined in Chapter 6 of the Constitution.
CS Duale praised the collective efforts of the County Government, NG-CDF, and area leadership under Hon. Samuel Chepkonga. He called for joint investment in upgrading the Burnt Forest Level 4 Hospital, proposing an increase in bed capacity from 60 to 150 to meet the threshold for introducing clinical medicine and nursing programs at the new KMTC campus.
