Cabinet Secretary For Health Engages Japan Ahead Of TICAD9 To Advance Shared Health Priorities
Nairobi, Kenya - , 2025 Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale, EGH, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. MATSUURA Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Kenya, to reflect on shared health priorities and align ahead of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled for under the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa.”
The theme aligns closely with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda and affirms health as a cornerstone of sustainable development and national resilience.
Hon. Duale acknowledged Japan’s longstanding support through JICA, which continues to strengthen people-centered initiatives under the TaifaCare framework—particularly in maternal and child health, medical equipment and technology, emergency preparedness, and disease surveillance.
He reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to resilient health systems and proposed deeper collaboration in the following areas:
1. Technical assistance in health policy and systems development
2. Joint research and innovation in medical technologies
3. Investment in climate-smart health infrastructure
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Dr. Ouma Oluga, Principal Secretary for Medical Services; Dr. Patrick Amoth, Director General for Health; and Dr. Stephen Muleshe, Senior Deputy Director, Office of International Health Relations.
