PS Muriuki Calls for Unified Action Against Malaria Threat

Nairobi ,2024 Emphasizing the necessity for ongoing efforts in combating malaria, Ms. Mary M. Muriuki, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, highlighted a notable decrease in malaria prevalence from 11% in 2010 to 6% in 2020.

Speaking during the World Malaria Day Media Briefing in Nairobi, Kenya, on , 2024, Ms. Muriuki stressed the significance of initiatives such as the mass net campaign, aimed at distributing over 15 million nets by . Despite progress, she called for additional support to address a gap of 3.6 million nets.

Recognizing the funding gap in malaria control, Ms. Muriuki acknowledged support from funding partners and announced the development of an Investment case for Malaria control in Kenya to guide resource allocation.

Committing to collaboration, the Ministry of Health pledged to work with partners to fill the funding gap and implement strategies for malaria control and elimination.

Reiterating the goal of malaria elimination in Kenya, Ms. Muriuki cited the achievement of Cape Verde as a testament to the feasibility of this objective in Africa. She urged all stakeholders to continue their efforts towards achieving this goal.
